Annoation

Presents a comparative analysis of various knowledge

representation formalisms (ontology languages) in light of their

applicability to the web based information interchange. Also

discusses the use of new web standards for machine

understandable web data to construct ontologies (RDF and XML).

The languages discussed are CycL and KIF (first order predicate

logic), Ontolingua and Frame Logic (frame based approach),

Description Logic.

XOL by http://smi-web.stanford.edu/projects/bio-ontology has

been discussed as an XML based ontology language but since it

does not support rules and constraints, the proposal for Ontology

Interchange Language (OIL) is briefly mentioned.
