Presents a comparative analysis of various knowledge |
representation formalisms (ontology languages) in light of their |
applicability to the web based information interchange. Also |
discusses the use of new web standards for machine |
understandable web data to construct ontologies (RDF and XML). |
The languages discussed are CycL and KIF (first order predicate |
logic), Ontolingua and Frame Logic (frame based approach), |
Description Logic. |
XOL by http://smi-web.stanford.edu/projects/bio-ontology has |
been discussed as an XML based ontology language but since it |
does not support rules and constraints, the proposal for Ontology |
Interchange Language (OIL) is briefly mentioned. |
